Wally's World

There was a boy named Wally, Wally was bigger than most other kids his age, and used his size to his advantage. At first it wasn't too bad, he would skip the line at the slide in the playground, or force people off the swings. As things went on, he realized he could use his size and strength to his advantage in many different ways. He had some of the smarter kids do his homework (under threat of a beating), and later on he started to steal lunches and money from the other kids at school. There were a few times when some of the kids would complain and say that is was not fair that Wally was taking advantage of them, but Wally always seemed to find out and an appropriate threat was made to silence the criticism. Eventually Wally realized that he might need some of these people as friends and couldn't make too many enemies. So, he came up with a great plan. He stole lunches from many of the kids at school, then he would pick through them and sell the good stuff to other kids....

Trevor the Terrific

I did a little illusion in church on March 2nd, it created quite a stir, so I thought I would video tape it and show it to you here. The "child volunteer" is Mike Kiewitt, adult ministries pastor at our church.

Minneapolis - Cambodia

This week I was struck by two news stories, one that received a lot of attention, another that will/has received very little. There's the incredible (awful!) story of the bridge that fell in Minneapolis where 5 have been confirmed dead and 8 are still missing. Then there is the story of the trials in Cambodia where they are trying the men who are responsible for the death nearly 2 million people in the late 70's. I don't mean to devalue the tragedy that went on in Minneapolis, but I would assume that many times the news coverage, and many times the financial resources will go to helping the victims and to help with the rebuilding, then has gone to the situation in Cambodia (or to other situations in Africa or Southeast Asia). I know that the USA is the power in the world today and they will, of course, look after their own first, I just wish that there was a little more equality. What can we do to make things a little more equal?

TORNADO

There were a bunch of tornadoes in Manitoba (I think 7) over the weekend. We heard Sunday morning that 2 of Nicky's brother's homes were hit by one of them (they have a farm close to Boissevain). We decided to go out there and try to help with the cleanup over the last few days. It is crazy what we saw...there are trees everywhere, there are buildings that have been crushed, and grain bins that have been thrown sometimes as far as a mile. We were so thankful that, in spite of all this damage, nobody was seriously injured. Where Nicky's family lives, there was only minor damage done to homes. But it is very scary what a tornado does, it really makes me take seriously those tornado watches I hear from time to time. Here is some video of the system that came through their yards, make sure to check the menu, on the YouTube link, it has a bunch of different videos as well. Tornado's are crazy, one man we talked to had his machine shed blow over and spread out over a field......
